Business in China
There’s no question about it: business is booming in China. Since 1980, China's economy has grown by an average of 9.5 percent a year, roughly the same level that Japan and then Taiwan and South Korea experienced at their postwar peaks.1This prosperity makes it an exciting time to work and do business in China with people of character. Although it is known for its export business – it exported $878 billion worth of goods in the first nine months of 2007, up 27 percent from the period last year – there is also tremendous growth domestically.2 This growth means a burgeoning middle class, which is fast becoming a target for marketers across the world.
All of this underscores the country’s need for talented and savvy business people. Working in China offers an amazing opportunity to make a positive contribution to the country and its people. It’s also the chance for individuals to learn and grow by interacting with a culture different from their own.
