Please note that the costs of moving to China (medical exams, passport and visa fees, etc.) will not be covered by the benefits package.

** NOTE: International Schools of China (ISC) values the contributions that families make to our schools. As a result, we provide housing, insurance, and free tuition for all the children in a family as well as a monthly stipend supplement of 1,700 RMB for families with one child and 3,400 RMB for families with two or more children. ISC provides round-trip airfare to and from China for up to two children. Families with three dependent children may opt to do Partnership Development (PD) to supplement their ISC stipend and benefits. Families with 4 or more dependent children may be required to participate in PD activities to supplement their ISC stipend. This benefit structure applies to all staff who join LDI after January 1, 2011. For more information on PD, contact an applicant liaison or HR staff person.

Application process

LDi/ISC seeks teachers who are called to join the work of ISC schools in China.  We invest a lot of time getting to know applicants through a very thorough application process.  An LDi Applicant Liaison will work with candidates throughout the process and will be available to answer any questions they may have.

Below is a brief outline of the steps in the LDi/ISC Application Process. The time frames listed are estimates; actual time frames will vary and depend on the candidate's speed of completing the required materials and the scheduling of interviews.

Step 1 - Initial Interest:  (approx. 1 week)

  • Candidate completes the initial interest form online.
  • Applicant Liaison contacts candidate upon receipt.

Step 2 - Discovery:   (approx. 1-2 weeks)

  • Candidate completes online form that gathers basic information about his/her professional and cultural fit within the organization.

Step 3 - Application:   (approx. 2-4 weeks)

  • Candidate completes a thorough battery of application materials online.
  • Applicant Liaison collects candidate references.

Step 4 - Medical:    (approx. 1 week)

  • Candidate submits medical information for self and all accompanying family members.

Step 5 - Follow-up:    (approx. 0-4 weeks)

  • Candidate completes any additional questionnaires or phone interviews needed to clarify previously submitted materials.

Step 6 - Final Interview:    (approx. 1-2 weeks)

  • LDi/US HR Director conducts personal phone interview with candidate.

Step 7 - Psychological Assessment and Final Review **:    (approx. 1-2 weeks)

  • LDi arranges for psychological evaluation.
  • Application file is submitted to LDi/ISC leadership for acceptance decision.
  • Acceptance Decision is communicated to candidate.

** Each candidate and spouse is required to complete a series of assessments (psychological, personality, etc.).  These assessments are only a part of the determining factors used in making an acceptance decision.  The assessments are usually administered through a counseling center in Michigan or near Atlanta, GA.  In this step the applicant is generally asked to travel to one of these locations at LDi's expense for an assessment which takes approximately 2 days.  Scheduling of the psychological assessment is typically delayed until open positions are known.  LDi attempts to accommodate the schedules of candidates, but scheduling must also be made in conjunction with the availability of counselors conducting assessments.

Step 8 - Post-Acceptance: Once accepted, candidates will need to complete a number of tasks to prepare for departure to China

  • Acquire passport
  • Undergo medical evaluations (physicals)
  • Process Letter of Invitation (LOI)
  • Submit all forms required for employment
  • Apply for visa (after receipt of LOI)
  • Register for ACSI's Pre-Field Orientation (PFO) - a two week training that takes place in late-June/early-July at Houghton College in upstate New York.
  • Applicant Liaison registers applicants for LDi's New Staff Orientation (NSO), which takes place 3 days before PFO at Houghton College
  • Applicant Liaison coordinates with new staff to make flight arrangements
  • Complete any support raising desired for outgoing/settling-in expenses.
